Colon Theater and MALBA Artistic Walk

Our walking journey commences at our centrally located offices in the heart of the San Telmo neighborhood, one of Buenos Aires' oldest districts, renowned for its vibrant tango and arts scene. We'll traverse Defensa Street southward, immersing ourselves in the charm of antique markets and distinctive architecture, featuring cobblestone streets, historic buildings, and period embellishments, including the iconic "faroles" or public lighting.

Our path leads us to Lezama Park, distinguished by tree-lined avenues, an amphitheater, and a sloping landscape descending towards Martín García and Paseo Colón avenues. Exiting the park, a brief walk takes us to the southern tip of Puerto Madero, the city's most modern district adorned with skyscrapers, upscale restaurants, and hotels. Here, we'll cross the dock and stroll along the opposite shore, reaching the striking Puente de la Mujer (Women's Bridge), a rotating marvel designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, symbolizing a couple engaged in a tango.

Having traversed the bridge, our path continues along the opposite shore until we reach Belgrano Avenue. Turning onto Paseo Colón Avenue, a three-block journey brings us to the historic Plaza de Mayo, where we can explore the Metropolitan Cathedral, Cabildo (colonial town hall), and Casa Rosada (Pink House), the executive branch headquarters. Our guide unfolds tales of historical and social significance associated with this iconic square.

Across the square, we venture onto Diagonal Norte, a significant city artery linking the Judicial Power (Supreme Court) with the Executive Power (Casa Rosada). Our stroll culminates at the renowned Obelisco de Buenos Aires, a city icon situated in the center of Avenida 9 de Julio, the world's widest avenue. Crossing this grand thoroughfare, our journey continues for two blocks until we reach the Colón Theater, a global opera house distinguished for its size, acoustics, and rich history.

Upon exploring the Colón Theater, we have the option to conclude our tour with a guided exploration inside this magnificent venue. The Auditorium, Main Foyer, Busts Gallery, and Golden Hall unveil architectural marvels, including detailed sculptures, ceilings, and stained glass. Following a 50-minute visit, our tour concludes at the theater's entrance.

Subsequently, we board a bus in front of the theater to head to the Palermo neighborhood, home to the MALBA (Museum of Latin American Art of Buenos Aires). Established in September 2001, MALBA aims to collect, preserve, study, and promote Latin American art from the early 20th century to the present. Featuring around 400 works by leading modern and contemporary artists, the museum entrance is included, allowing you to explore its exhibitions at your own pace. The tour concludes at MALBA, providing you with the opportunity for further exploration.
